Description

This full-time Primary Care faculty position at the Illinois College of Optometry involves a balance of clinical teaching, patient care, scholarly activity, and service. Responsibilities include supervising student clinicians and residents in the Illinois Eye Institute, providing classroom and laboratory instruction, delivering high-quality patient care, maintaining timely clinical documentation, contributing to research and professional presentations, and participating in college committees and professional service activities. The anticipated start date for the position is August 2026; however, this can be revised if needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 Clinical/Didactic Education:

•       Precepts and monitors assigned student clinicians and residents in the Illinois Eye Institute
•       Classroom and laboratory teaching as assigned by the Dean/Vice President of Academic Affairs

Patient Care:

•       Delivers appropriate patient care and management according to clinical privileges granted by the Professional Standards Board
•        Completes documentation and correspondence related to patient medical record in a timely manner

Scholarly Activity:

•       Engages in activities to develop expertise as a scholar and educator
•       Engages in activities to develop expertise as a clinical preceptor
•       Engages in activities to develop expertise in patient care
•       Develops and presents at professional meetings and conferences on a regular basis
•       Contributes to the professional literature on a regular basis
•       Attends continuing education to maintain the standard of care and clinical privileges

Service Administration:

•       Contributes to the College’s strategic initiatives through committee participation and other related activities
•       Involvement in professional activities on a local and national level
•       Attends scheduled faculty, service, and department meetings

 Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•       Possesses a Doctor of Optometry degree from an ACOE-accredited institution and is licensed or licensed eligible to practice in Illinois
•       Residency training in Primary Care/Ocular Disease at an ACOE-accredited institution or five years of equivalent experience is preferred
•       Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required
•       Successful credentialing through the IEI Professional Standards Board
